Jury Duty FAQ

Emergency Contact: Jury Clerk

The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York summons jurors from the following counties: New York, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess and Sullivan. There is no more valuable service that a citizen can perform in support of our democratic Government than the good faith performance of jury duty. By serving jury duty, a citizen becomes involved in the administration of justice.

If you received a summons from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and seek additional information, please visit the FAQ’s about Jury Duty. The jury duty information provided within this site only pertains to serving jury duty within the federal court.

Please review the summons to identify both the court and the courthouse. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York is comprised of three courthouses, two of which are located in Manhattan at 500 Pearl Street and 40 Centre Street. The third courthouse is located at 300 Quarropas Street in White Plains. To get directions to a courthouse, click on "Getting Here" to the right. If the summons was issued by another court, please contact that court for information.

Do not bring electronic equipment, including cellphones, blackberries, PDAs, laptops and the like, to the courthouse.

Jurors may not use e-mail to contact the Court. Any e-mail sent regarding jury duty will not be acknowledged. In the case of an emergency, contact the Jury Clerk. Jurors summoned to the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse (Manhattan) should contact the Jury Clerk in Manhattan (212 805-0179) and jurors summoned to the Hon. Charles L. Brieant Jr. Courthouse (White Plains) should contact the Jury Clerk in White Plains (914-390-4014).
